The IBC is responsible for reviewing projects in which biohazards are used ensuring that research is conducted safely and that risks are assessed and minimized – see IBC Charge. The IBC reviews and approves projects and issues Biohazard Use Authorization (BUA) permits per the standard operating procedure: SOP IBC BUA Review and Approval Process. Visit the Biohazard Use Authorization (BUA) web page to register, renew, or amend a BUA.

Additionally, Human Gene Transfer (HGT) clinical trials need to be reviewed by an IBC. Before HGT clinical trials can commence, the study teams need to fulfill a specific set of requirements before they can be approved by the IBC. Read more about the IBC approval process for HGT clinical trials.
